APRIL 2013

Agriculture for the Consumer

Cape Agri Week at Bien Donne

If you have not yet booked Wednesday 17 until Saturday 20 April in your diary, we offer you 10 reasons to visit the 2013 Bien Donné Agri Cape Week.

“Agriculture for the consumer” is the 2013 theme for the Bien Donné Agri Cape Week. A variety of presentations at the expo will aim to expose agriculture as a consumer friendly industry. While a focus will be retained on how agriculture may become increasingly friendly to consumers by primary role players, a wide number of tailor made consumer market events will be included in this year’s expo programme.

Activities for the Red Meat Industry promise to be of extreme value to producers in particular. At Bien Donné 2013 the focus on consumers will kick off with a red meat focussed Agri-consumer debate. The facilitator will be Prof. Johann Kirsten from the University of Pretoria. This discussion is expected to offer a meaningful perspective on an important issue. Additional red meat activities planned include a training session for cattle handlers at shows and a “Braai and Taste” event by the Angus Cattle Breeders’ Association.

Go big! Enjoy a braai! Jan Braai, the official face of South Africa's favourite leisure event, will be part of the 2013 Bien Donné Agri Cape Week. In line with his life call to unite South Africans around a barbeque fire, Jan will talk about the different types of meat and the various methods of preparation. His presentation will include a demonstration – certainly not something you would like to miss out on if a braai fire tickles your fancy. Jan Braai will also be the judge in the steak braai competition to be held during the expo. As always the participant will be treated to fantastic prizes. Especially corporate teams are encouraged and invited to enroll right away.

Especially for the ladies Annually Bien Donné Agri Cape Week offers comprehensive programs for the ladies and 2013 will be no exception. One of the events which need to be diaries by all city and rural ladies is a ladies’ morning presented by LAPA Publishers, star cook Heleen Meyer, and the Medical Emergency Transport Rescue Organisation (METRO). With a strong focus on family health, this event promises to be a winner.

VinPro/Winetech Technical Information Day at Bien Donné Agri Cape Week will in 2013 again be the host of the VinPro and Winetech Technical Information Day. All wine growers and stakeholders in the wine industry are invited to this event. As in the past experienced speakers will discuss current industry affairs and reply to questions from the audience. All wine producers are welcome – see you there!

LOSLIT DAG FEES 2013 / CASUAL DAY FESTIVAL 2013

Casual Day / Loslit dag
Casual Day is
a FUNdraising project benefiting persons with disabilities.

Each year we call upon South Africans to dress differently on the first Friday of September and to wear the Casual Day sticker and something blue to show their support for persons with disabilities.

Casual Day is South Africa's foremost fundraising event of this nature and raises more than just money — it raises awareness about persons with disabilities, opportunities for corporate comradeship, community support and welfare organisation participation.

SHOW YOU CARE WITH WHAT YOU WEAR . . .
as long as you also wear a Casual Day sticker and blue!

Will we sink or swim during this, our 18th campaign? We’ll get back to you early in 2013 with the answer to that question. But we know we can’t do it unless you get on board!

Berg River Canoe Marathon

Berg River Canoe MarathonFrom Paarl to Velddrif. This is THE event on the WCCU racing calendar and the flagship event. The 4 day Berg River Canoe Marathon takes place over four days and covers 227 kilometres, making it the longest race in South Africa. A hard race not for the feint hearted. It is an extremely tough challenge. It takes place in winter. The weather can be a fierce opponent, not to mention the tricky nature of the river. The water tends to be fast-flowing, but the channels are narrow, and overhanging trees give another angle to the test.
