Diemersfontein is known for its beauty, informal elegance, and grace - an idyllic wine estate only 45 minutes drive from Cape Town and is situated near the Cape's famous Wine Routes.

Diemersfontein has belonged to the Sonnenberg family since the early 1940s, when David's grandfather, Max, bought the 183 hectare farm, which lies in the shadow of the majestic Hawekwa Mountains with a panoramic view of both Du Toit's Kloof and Bains' Kloof.

The first vineyards were planted by David's father in the 1970s, and in 2000 David built his own cellar and started producing award-winning estate wines.

Vineyard plantings include Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and also the "lesser known" varietals Viognier, Barbera, Roobernet and Mouvedre. Diemersfontein's maiden vintage (2001) won the Paul Sauer Trophy for a wooded Pinotage at the SA Young Wine Show and from that first vintage, awards have continued to be received by the Estate for many of their wines.

Dating back to 1695 and the granting of farms in freehold Under Oaks is a farm deeply steeped in history and plenty of tradition. Our aim is to create a boutique-style wine farm and to produce small quantities of top quality wines providing meticulous personal service and attention to detail.

The farm has a very special ambience with restored white-washed buildings and a panoramic view of the Drakenstein Mountains.

Wine tastings and sales are held from Tuesdays to Sundays between 11am and 4pm. With an informal and laid-back approach we will guide you through our range of 6 single varietal award winning wines.

The old rustic "jonkmanshuis"doubles as a pizzeria and art gallery with works by Portchie and Frans Groenewald. Both artists are unique and produce vibrantly bright and whimsical works that reflect their own humour and intelligence.
